Word of the Day: Floating Exchange Rate



The exchange rate of a currency that is allowed to float, either within a narrow specified band around a reference rate, or freely according to the market forces, is called as floating exchange rate.

These forces of demand and supply are influenced by factors, such as, a nation's economic health, trade performance and Balance of payment position, interest rates and inflation.
